PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (PNG Post-Courier, Nov. 23) – The Mediterranean island nation of Malta is bracing for what is to be the largest berthing of 52 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting later this week.

The banners are up and the advance party comprising non-government organisations, youth, journalists, businessmen and foreign ministers are already arriving on this tri-island nation where usually laid-back islanders are now hyper security conscious.

Papua New Guinea will be represented by Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare.

[PIR editor’s note: Tongan Prime Minister, Prince Ulukalala Lavaka Ata, is also among Pacific island leaders at the meeting.]]

Queen Elizabeth II will be in attendance as well on a three-day state visit that will include the official opening ceremony on Friday.
