The Chairman of Operation Committee Landfrank Quity said major work, which started September last year has been completed and the airstrip is ready to open for business and service later this year.

Located at the southwestern end of the [Santa Isabel] island, he said the new airstrip would serve more than 4,000 people from Babahaero to Kosisi and Bugotu area.

Mr. Quity urged the people to open and pursue development opportunities in the rural areas to provide service and needed income.

There are tourism, fisheries, reforestation, oil palm and farming opportunities that are suitable for the area. These will provide employment at the grassroots level, he said.

"Let us all work together by promoting this because nothing can be achieve without labor."

He calls on the government, non-government organizations, private and business sectors and churches to utilize the Zazao airstrip to promote and expand their activities.

The Eastern Development Enterprises Limited constructed the airstrip with technical and professional assistance from relevant government ministries and the private sectors.

Mr. Quity said the completion of the airstrip is historic for the people. It is the third airstrip on the island.
