NUKUALOFA, Tonga (Matangi Tonga, Dec. 14) – Just over a half of the 3,186 primary school students who sat this year’s High School Entrance Examination passed, confirmed the Examination Unit of the Tonga Ministry of Education today.

Tu’ifua Petelo, the Senior Education officer at the Examination Unit, said today that the 51 percent pass rate this year is lower by one percent in comparison to last year’s 52 per cent passes.

The annual High School Entrance Examination is compulsory for primary school class six students to sit in order to be accepted to any Form 1 level of any high school in Tonga.

Tu’ifua said from her observation the passes into the different high Schools in Tonga were evenly distributed throughout the government and church schools.

The entrance examination held on October 24–25 was sat by pupils from 113 Primary schools throughout Tonga, and the exam results were announced at the beginning of December.
