WELLINGTON, New Zealand (RNZI, Jan. 2) – Two fisherman have been reunited with their families on the Tongan island of Ha’apai after going missing two months ago.

The men, who were stranded on a small island, attracted the attention of a fishing boat by lighting a fire.

They were given medical checks when they arrived in Ha’apai on Friday, but they were allowed to return to their families last night.

Local police say the men survived on coconuts and cassava.

One of the men’s families had already held traditional ceremonies to mark his passing away, but the wife of the other man had continued to pray for his survival.
