KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon, Jan. 23) — The Ministry of Health has warned the public that there have been six confirmed cases of dengue fever during the first three weeks of January.

Dengue fever is a disease that is caused by a virus transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito.

A mosquito becomes infected when it bites a person who has dengue fever. When the infected mosquito bites another person who is not sick, it transmits the disease to that person.

The mosquito that transmits dengue fever breeds in stagnant water, especially in containers around households such as cans, buckets, tires, flowerpots, drums, and any container that can hold water and is accessible to mosquitoes.
