‘ICE’ KILLS RECORD 85 IN HONOLULU

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Jan. 24) – Crystal methamphetamine killed 85 people in Honolulu in 2005, a 27 percent increase over the previous year.

The Honolulu Advertiser quotes Honolulu chief medical examiner Dr. Kanthi De Alwis saying that the statistic set a record for ice-related fatalities for the second year in a row.

The drug was responsible for 67 deaths in 2004.

Dr De Alwis said the record number of deaths reflects the widespread use of the drug.
