PALAU MOURNS SENATOR TEMINIGIL

KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon, Jan. 30) – Palau President Tommy Remengesau has declared five days of mourning for former Sen. Edobo Temingil, who passed away on January 16.

In presidential proclamation 06-63, the president ordered all Palauan flags be flown at half-mast for a period of five days starting on January 24 as a show of respect for Temingil.

All flags will also be half-mast at the embassies and consulates of Palau in other countries.

Temengil was born in Angaur on November 24, 1939, and during the 1st Olbiil Era Kelulau – Palau Legislative Assembly - he served as chairman of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means and vice chairman of the Joint Committee on Capital Improvement Programs and Budget.

Temengil held several important government positions prior to his term in the Senate. He was treasurer for the Palau legislature, the fiscal officer for the Trust Territory Department of Education and auditor for the Trust Territory government.

Temengil also served as Chief Midchuls, the 6th ranking traditional chief of Angaur’s Ngerbelau clan.
