HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, Feb. 7) - Aranimanu Tourist Resort in West Are’are, is SB$10,470 [US$1,491] richer following a generous donation by the Republic of China [Taiwan].

The funds are to be used to complete the construction of three bungalows, dining, and kitchen and office facilities for the project as well as to erect a new dormitory type bungalow for drivers.

Hundreds of leaders, elders, chiefs and women witnessed the handing over of the funds last week.

Project Coordinator Vanasio Huniehu, landowner Representative Lino Rauhoura, village Chief Alfred Oai, and former West Are’are Member of Parliament Hairiu made speeches during the presentation ceremony.

In acknowledging the Republic of China, the speakers highlighted that such funding had never happened in the past for the constituents.

However, Huniehu said more than 28 projects were already handed to respective project owners.

He said of the 28 projects, Aranimamu Tourist Resort project is the latest to benefit.

Hairiu told the gathering that cooperation and love must exist in the community to enable the project to turn into reality.

"Unless cooperation and love exists in jobs, nothing will be done," said Hairiu.

Hairiu strongly emphasized to the villagers that the only suitable and less destructive development for West Are’are is tourism.
