WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Feb. 8) – A New Zealander will appear in court on Norfolk Island this afternoon to be charged with murder.

[PIR editor’s note: Norfolk Island, an offshore territory of Australia, is located between Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia.]

Glenn McNeill, who is from the South Island city of Nelson, is accused of killing Australian woman Janelle Patton on Norfolk in 2002. It was the island’s first recorded murder in 150 years.

A request for his extradition was granted in the Nelson District Court on Tuesday and yesterday Mr McNeill was flown to the island along with two Australian police officers.
