SUVA. Fiji (Fiji Times, April 2) – The Fiji military will visit Naitasiri province next week as part of its truth and justice campaign despite a ban.

[PIR editor’s note: Naitasiri, located in northeastern Viti Levu, is one of eight provinces on Fiji’s main island.]

Military spokesman Captain Neumi Leweni yesterday confirmed the visit but did not want to elaborate.

"We'll see what happens then," he said.

The military started its political campaign last month in the build-up to the general election in May.

It said the purpose of its campaign was to inform people of what happened in the 2000 coup and to encourage voters to cast their vote according to their conscience and not according to race.

The campaign has drawn flak from members of the public as well as army supporters against the military taking an active role in politics.

Naitasiri has declared that it did not want the military to spread its truth and justice campaign in the province.
