SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, April 5) - The Kadavu Provincial Council had raised its disappointment over the services by a local Fiji airline that services the island.

Council chairman Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo said the current pathetic services by Air Fiji to the island were raised by the tourism committee.

The tourism committee is made up of all resort owners on the various islands around Kadavu.

Josateki said the airline had not been running its scheduled flights.

He said the airline had changed their flight schedules and at times even cancel the flights without due warning.

"Kadavu, being a new tourist destination with two new 5 star resorts about to open, cannot afford to have unreliable transport arrangements," he said.

Apart from the hotel owners, Josateki said, the people also raised their disappointment.

He said the council had raised its concern with the Director of Transport and Civil Aviation who was also at the provincial meeting.

"We hope that Air Fiji will improve its services with the inclusion of two larger aircrafts from China."

Josateki said they suggested that other airline operators be approached to service the island.

[PIR editor’s note: According to yesterday’s PIR, Fiji United Peoples' Party President Mick Beddoes said despite paying one of the highest domestic airfares in Fiji, Rotumans and visitors to the northernmost Fiji island were subjected to the most pathetic and unprofessional service (from Air Fiji) he had ever experienced.]

Attempts to contact Air Fiji proved futile.
