HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, April 11) - Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has congratulated his Solomon Islands counterpart Sir Allan Kemakeza, on his re-election to parliament.

Sir Michael said in a faxed letter to Sir Allan that his re-election was a testimony of the confidence the people of Savo and Russell constituency had in his leadership.

The Papua New Guinea Prime Minister said he is confident that the elected members of parliament will further reflect the people’s confidence in Sir Allan's leadership by choosing him to lead the country again as prime minister for the next four years.

Sir Michael said he is pleased to know that the process of conducting the elections ensured that the people of Solomon Islands were able to choose their leaders in a fair, free and transparent manner.

Sir Michael said the relationship between Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands had always been solid, which was strengthened in recent years with Sir Allan’s personal commitment.

Sir Michael said he looks forward to working closely with Sir Allan in further strengthening the relations between their people and governments and in working together as members of the Melanesian Spearhead Group, Pacific Islands Forum, the Commonwealth, United Nations and other organizations where the two countries have common interests.
