SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, April 17) - A young soldier from Saipan was seriously wounded in a bomb attack in Iraq.

Private Joshua P. Stein was flown on Monday to Landhstul, Germany for treatment, according to the Commonwealth Football League.

"I would like to ask everyone to keep Josh Stein, Jesse’s son, in your prayers. Josh was seriously wounded in Iraq due to an (improvised explosive device) attack…. Please spread the word. God bless you all," according to the Commonwealth Football League in an e-mail message.

There were no other details regarding the attack that injured Josh, a football player.

He completed basic combat training last year at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri.

Josh comes from a family of service members.

His father, Jesse Stein, is a retired military man, and was director of the Workforce Investment Agency during the Babauta administration.

Early this year, hundreds of local reservists who served an 18-month tour of duty in Iraq have returned to the CNMI, but recruitment of new military personnel continues in the islands.
