HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, April 19) – A group of concerned Honiara residents, calling themselves Peoples Power have delivered a petition to the Solomon Islands Govenor General.

The group is demanding the immediate resignation of newly elected Prime Minister Snyder Rini.

The group of over 350 people marched from the Arts Gallery to Government House to deliver the petition.

Govenor General Nathaniel Waena said he would call Mr Rini and discuss the petition. But he said his office does not have the power to ask the Prime Minister to step down. The Prime Minister can only resign on his own accord.

Group spokesman Robert Wales gave Sir Nathaniel till 6 p.m. to issue a public broadcast of the outcome of his talks with Mr Rini.
