COOKS CONTRACTOR WINS AITUTAKI HOSPITAL BID

RAROTONGA, Cook Islands (The Cook Islands Herald, April 29) – The successful bid for refurbishing the Aitutaki Hospital is Landholdings Ltd.

The project will start soon and is expected to take 16 to 20 weeks, says Cook Islands Investment Corporation project coordinator Liane Towgood.

[PIR editor’s note: Aitutaki is an atoll north of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.]

The work involves construction of a new X-ray room, a conference area and a carport for ambulance parking. New water tanks will be installed and existing rainwater holding tanks upgraded to enable the hospital to be less reliant on the public reticulation system. Painting and electrical and joinery work will also be done.

Tenders were called, received and reviewed by the Project Management Unit comprising of representatives from NZAID, MFEM Aid Management, Ministry of Health & CIIC.

The project is jointly funded by NZAID and AusAID and will cost around NZ$570,000 [US$364,000].

CIIC and the Ministry of Health, acknowledges the financial assistance provided by NZAID and AusAID toward the refurbishment of the hospital.
