FIJI VILLAGE MOURNS DEATH OF PARAMOUNT CHIEF

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, May 18) – The vanua o Betoraurau in Sabeto will bury their paramount chief Ratu Kaliova Lumuni Mataitoga tomorrow.

Ratu Kaliova, 52, died a few days prior to the general election.

The Ba Province will present their i reguregu today. Ratu Kaliova was a member of the Ba Provincial Council.

Ratu Kaliova was installed as Tui Sabeto when he was 25.

He took over the chiefly reign from his older brother Ratu Josaia Nabukatavatava.

Maikeli Turuva also from Sabeto said Ratu Kaliovas love for his vanua and his people reflected in his obligations as a member of the Native Land Trust Board and one of the three chiefs that represents the Province of Ba in the Great Council of Chiefs. He was also a Justice of Peace.

In Sabeto, he headed the seven yavusas (tribes) of the vanua of Betoraurau, which are Conua, Naleiwavuwavu, Nasara, Waruta, Ne, Leweidrasa and Leweikoro,

The Tui Sabeto looks after the five villages of Sabeto, which are Koroyaca, Narokororokoyawa, Natalau, Naboutini and Korobebe.

He is survived by his wife Adi Josifini Naburenimaravu and seven children.
