NEW ZEALAND, AUSTRALIA BEEF UP COOKS AID

RAROTONGA, Cook Islands (Cook Islands News, July 8) – Aid provided to the Cook Islands from 26 offshore donors is expected to increase by NZ$6.4 million [US$3.9 million] to $26.4 million [US$16.3 million] in 2006-07.

New Zealand continues to be the largest donor with about NZ$10.9 million [US$6.7 million] expected in aid in 2006-07.

Australia is beefing up its aid to the Cooks with a special sum of AU$4.7 million [US$3,7 million], to extend the life of patrol boat Te Kukupa, on top of their AU$6.8 million [US$5.1 million] in aid for the financial year.
