HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, July 26) – The Melanesian countries will be adopting the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) constitution during the Group Leaders Summit in Vanuatu in 2007.

Group Senior Officials Meeting Chairman Gabriel Pepson made the announcement during a press conference with local journalists in Buala.

He said the Buala meetings have produced great achievements in preparation for the formal adoption of the MSG Constitution.

He said one of the important outcomes of the Buala Meeting is the discussion among member countries of the draft MSG Constitution.

"We are deliberating on the Draft MSG Constitution and I am pleased to say that we have made substantive development to that end," said Mr Pepson.

He added that the sub regional alliance will also be launching its logo, and MSG song and flag during the Leaders Summit.

The revised MSG Trade Agreement is also another important document being discussed at the Buala Meetings that is also expected to be endorsed at the Leaders Summit.

No date has been decided on for the Leaders Summit next year.

Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, Bernard Bata’anisia and Alternate Leaders of the Solomon Islands delegation, told the media conference that the date for next year’s MSG Leaders Summit will be decided by the Interim MSG Secretariat, which is currently looked after by the Vanuatu government and based in Port Vila.
