PALAU ANNOUNCES TAIWAN-FUNDED PROJECTS

KOROR (Palau Horizon, Sept. 20) – Palau President Remengesau, Angaur Governor Horace Rafael and Taiwan Ambassador Clark H. Chen led other government officials during the inauguration of four major infrastructure projects and groundbreaking of four others in Angaur on September 15.

Gov. Rafael said that all eight projects are part of the state government’s efforts to increase the number of visitors in their beautiful islands.

All eight projects are funded by the Republic of China (Taiwan).

Surangel and Sons Company is the sole contractor for the four projects which are about to be constructed including the Road Improvement project amounting to US$100,000, Old Age Center (US$50,000), Renovation of the Community Center (US$25,000), and Dispensary Repair (US$25,000).

The four other completed projects through State force account were a waterline extension project amounting to US$50,000, Angaur Boat Overhaul and Refurbish (US$90,000), Angaur Elementary School Walkway (US$5,000) and the Angaur State Office Renovation Project (US$15,000).

[PIR editor’s note: Angaur is the Southwestern-most island in the Palau archipelago. It has an area of 8 square kilometers and a population of about 200.]
