FIJI’S NADI GETS $1.7 MILLION HARDWARE STORE

By Timothy Naivaluwaqa

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Oct. 2) - The people of Nadi, Fiji now have one of the finest hardware facilities in the country.

The RC Manubhai complex, which opened in Namaka on Saturday night, has been described as testimony to the strong investor confidence in Fiji.

Opened after three years of hard work, the FJ$3 million [US$1.7 million] facility located opposite the Namaka Market is the largest RC Manubhai outlet.

Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase said the growth of R.C Manubhai could only be described as a remarkable success story.

Qarase said the entire RC Manubhai network was a credit both to the company's present management and to the Patel's forebear.

Qarase said the opening of RC Manubhai's new Nadi store was an indication of the confidence that investors, who know the local environment intimately, have and believe in the country's potential.

He said apart from developing its own supermarkets around the country, R.C Manubhai has also branched out into other ventures such as being a stakeholder in the Vision Group the consortium responsible for one of Fiji's largest corporate takeovers.

Vision Group had purchased the British-owned Courts Homecentres (Fiji) Limited for FJ$47 million [US$27.3 million].

Qarase said the RC Manubhai story continued to illustrate what was possible in Fiji where there is a determination to succeed.

Qarase said it was an honor to open such a facility because the store would immediately bring employment to about 60 to 70 people with the number expected to rise to 150 in the near future.

RC Manubhai managing director, Dinesh Patel said the achievements of the company over the years were a direct testament of the vision of the company's founders.

Patel said the construction and opening of the new Nadi store was a display of the confidence they had in the local economy and Fiji's leadership.

Patel vowed that the company would continue developing its interests in Fiji providing employment for more people.
