FIJI VICE PRESIDENT PRAISES CHINESE COMMUNITY

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Oct. 2) – Fiji Vice President, Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi, last night praised the Chinese community for their continued support towards building a stronger relationship with the people of Fiji.

Speaking at the 57th Anniversary of the Founding of the Peoples Republic of China, Ratu Joni said not only had ties been built between the people of the two nations in the area of trade and development but that of multi-culturalism.

He told more than 300 Chinese people present at the Civic Auditorium that events such as celebrating the 57th Anniversary spoke volumes of the friendship that existed between the Chinese and local communities in Fiji.

China's Ambassador to Fiji Cai Jinbiao said the Chinese community contributed towards the development of this nation.

"The Chinese community has done a lot in contributing towards the economic development of Fiji and other types of developments that has taken place," he said. "China has grown over the past 57 years, contributing towards world peace and aid to other developing countries," Jinbiao said.

He said the local Chinese community would continue to do their task in contributing towards future developments of Fiji.

Jinbiao said trade had been an important area China has helped Fiji with.

"The development growth in Fiji has been enormous and the Chinese community both here and back at home will continue to work with our local friends in helping take Fiji forward."

The Chinese community will also celebrate its moon festival on October 6.
