SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, Dec. 11) – Fiji’s Military Council is processing about 300 applications for vacant posts in an Interim Military Government.

This was disclosed by army commander and head of the government, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama at a press conference in Suva this afternoon.

Commodore Bainimarama said it would take some time to put an interim government in place.

He admitted that the delay by the Great Council of Chiefs to convene a meeting was hindering the progress of an interim government.

However, Commodore Bainimarama said an interim government would be in place in time.

The GCC will meet late next week to discuss the takeover of the Government by the army.

Commodore Bainimarama had hoped the meeting would be held soon to reappoint Ratu Josefa Iloilo as president so that he could appoint the interim government.

Applications for posts in the interim government close tomorrow.

Meanwhile Commodore Bainimarama said army checkpoints in key locations around the greater Suva area would remain and the situation would be reviewed.

He also gave a midday deadline for all government vehicles to be returned to the army or they would be seized.
