WOMAN FACES PRISON FOR ‘ICE’ TRAFFICKING

SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, December 18) – A woman indicted for methamphetamine "ice" possession and distribution in Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands has been found guilty by a federal jury.

Julita A. Sablan will be sentenced on March 20, 2007 at 9:30 a.m.

The jurors started deliberating on Thursday morning and informed U.S. District Court for NMI Chief Judge Alex Munson at 10 a.m. on Friday that they were deadlocked.

The jurors were sent back to the deliberating room and at 1:15 p.m. they reached a verdict.

Sablan, who is represented by attorney Steven Pixley, was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshall Service.

Her jury trial started on Dec. 11 and ended on Wednesday, Dec. 13.

The government represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Craig Moore presented seven witnesses while the defense presented two.

Sablan was indicted along with Greg Magofna and Ismike Magofna.

Greg Magofna was acquitted after the government dismissed the charges against him while Ismike Magofna signed a plea agreement and entered a guilty plea to possession and distribution of "ice."
