SIX INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES BOOST TAHITI TOURISM

PAPEETE, Tahiti (Tahitipresse, Dec. 28) – The six international airlines serving Tahiti carried 7.6% more overall passengers with 11 more flights and a 0.5% greater seating capacity in November, compared with a year ago, according to French Civil Aviation Office statistics.

Those airlines filled an average of 70.1% of the November flights, compared with an average passenger load factor of 66% a year ago.

This year's 303 November flights carried 52,388 passengers in arriving and departing destination traffic, compared with 48,276 passengers for 292 flights a year ago. There also were 5,812 arriving and departing transit passengers this November, 390 fewer than last year's 6,202 transit passengers.

During the first 11 months of this year, the six airlines had a combined average passenger load factor of 67.9%, slightly lower than the 68.9% average for the same period last year.

This year's first 11 months were highlighted by 224 more flights than a year ago, 6.9% more passengers and an 8.3% greater seating capacity.

One particular highlight was a greater number of transit passengers this year. The volume of transit passengers increased by 3,230, or +4.79%, from 67,452 for the 11-month period last year to 70,682 transit passengers this year.
