GOLD MINE OPERATOR PROTESTS ARMY OCCUPATION

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Jan. 8) - Emperor Gold Mines Limited chief executive Brad Gordon has called on the military to respect the rights of people and the company.

His call comes after the military moved into parts of the Vatukoula Gold Mine complex on Saturday night.

Speaking from Australia yesterday, mine personnel who had been evacuated from Fiji late on Sunday reported that soldiers had arrived at their homes late on Saturday evening, demanding keys to administration and management buildings at the mine site. They said following that, soldiers entered buildings, including the central administration and information technology complexes.
