SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Jan. 8) - The Fiji Islands Hotels and Tourism Association has welcomed the appointment of the seven Interim Ministers yesterday.

President Mereoni Korovavala said it was encouraging to note that the ministers had been appointed to allocated portfolios according to areas of expertise.

She said interim ministers were persons with proven records of performance in their fields.

Mrs. Korovavala said the ministers alone could not do all the work and the nation would have to continue to do their part in the areas of responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has joined Japan and New Zealand in downgrading its travel advisory for people traveling to Fiji.

Tourism Action Group chairman Damend Gounder said visitors from the United Kingdom were advising people to use caution when traveling to Fiji but it was advising against all but essential travel to Fiji.

Only Australia, Fiji's key tourism market, continues to tell its citizens to "reconsider your need to travel to Fiji."

Mr. Gounder said the downgrading of advisories reflected the continued stability in Fiji.
