NEW AUSSIE HIGH COMMISSIONER ARRIVES IN FIJI

SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Feb. 1) – New High Commissioner of Australia James Bately has presented his credentials to Fiji President Ratu Josefa Iloilo at the Government House.

An Australian government statement said Mr. Bately held the position of Special Coordinator, Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) since 2004.

Also in Australia, he served as Desk Officer, South Pacific Bilateral Section (1988-89), Director, Papua New Guinea Section (1994), Assistant Secretary, Mainland South-East Asia and South Asia Branch (2002-2004).

Mr. Bately was born in Sydney in 1958 and holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honors) degree from Sydney University.

He replaces former high commissioner Jennifer Rawson. Ms. Rawson was a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
