FIVE FACE TRIAL IN SAMOA ‘ICE’ CASE

APIA, Samoa (Samoa Observer, Feb. 21) - Five accused of possession of the [drug] methamphetamine, or "ice," are to stand trial in the latter part of this year.

The trial of Tagaloa Runi Masame, of Tulaele, was set for the week starting 9 July.

Patrick Nicky Chan Chui, 41, of Ululoloa is to stand trial on 20 August together with Stuart Webber, of Vailoa.

Semisi Lafi, 47, of Vaitele-uta and Mailo Benjamin Vai, of Vaiala, go on trial on 17 September.

The five accused are also all charged with possession of instruments (utensils) allegedly used for the consumption of the drug.

Toleafoa Solomona Toailoa and his associate Rosella Viane Papali'i are representing Chan Chui, Mailo, Tagaloa and Webber. Lafi is represented by Maiava Visekota Peteru.

The trial dates for the defendants were set yesterday in the Supreme Court.
