SAIPAN, CNMI (Mariana Variety, Feb. 27) - United States Pacific Defense Representative Rear Admiral Charles Joe Leidig has assured more projects for Angaur and Peleliu in the near future as he and Vice President Elias Camsek Chin led a group that visited the two outlying states in Palau on Tuesday.

The trip was mainly to inspect the recently completed improvement and re-opening of the two airstrips in both states.

Chin took the 20-minute ride via the four-seater helicopter courtesy of owner Jon Walker to Anguar.

In Angaur, Chin and Leidig met with members of the Air Force Civic Action Team 07-03 led by Captain Ryan Walinski and Governor Horace Rafael at the airport.

Also showed up were Angaur State Legislature Speaker Joshua Lewis and some residents that included Hesus Beleib, who had vivid memories of World War II.

Beleib showed Leidig several photos of the airport claiming he had worked with the US Navy in the 1960s.

Rafael expressed appreciation for the completion of the re-opening of the airport and the continuing support that the US has been extending to Palau.

From Angaur, Chin, Leidig and his wife take the five-minute ride to the War Memorial in Peleliu where they had a lunch prepared by Governor Jackson Ngiraingas.

After exchanging messages for better cooperation especially on the full use of the two airstrips, Leidig preferred to board with the Civic Action Team on the president’s boat on the way back to Koror while Chin rode via the 15-minute ride from Peleliu to Koror along with Governors Ngiraingas and Rafael.
