WELLINGTON, New Zealand (NiuFM, Feb. 28) - The Maori Party claims New Zealand is deliberately stifling the growth of Maori with its immigration policy and locking out Pacific people in the process.

MP Hone Harawira told Pacific Radio News mainstream Palagi and Government continue to feel confused about the fact New Zealand is no longer part of Europe.

The party's co-leader Tariana Turia has accused the Government of trying to stop the "Browning of New Zealand" with its policies.

Today, Harawira told us the natural population growth of Maori and Pacific people has been choked by policies that give priority to migrants from European countries.

Prime Minister Helen Clark has dismissed the claim as "silly" saying New Zealand's need skilled migrants.
