HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, April 24) – Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has described as disturbing, the number of deaths confirmed in Solomon Islands so far.

The confirmed toll after the earthquake and tsunami stands at 52.

But Mr. Sogavare says the death of these 52 people in a country whose population is just more than 500,000 is a huge loss.

He says these people are not statistics but human beings, which make up the population of Solomon Islands.

Mr. Sogavare says the children who died belong to parents and should have been leaders and workers of Solomon Islands.

He says these people belong to families who have a heart for them.
