HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, April 25) – The rebuilding phase of the response given to the tsunami affected areas in the Solomon Islands Choiseul and Western provinces has not yet began.

National Disaster Management Office Program Officer Julian Maka'a says what is being implemented is the immediate relief phase, which involves meeting people's immediate needs such as food, shelter and clothing.

Maka'a says the relief phase is to wind down by the end of the week after which the second and recovery phase of the operation will come into effect.

He says the recovery phase involves looking at the number of buildings, schools and villages destroyed and determining how much of the funds that came in would go towards the rebuilding of infrastructure.

Maka'a says the rebuilding phase of the operation comes after the second phase.
