SOLOMONS POLICE SEIZE RECORD HOMEBREW STASH

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, May 29) – Police in Honiara, Solomon Islands have seized one of the largest quantities on record of fermented Kwaso in Honiara last week. Six hundred litres of Kwaso were seized during the oiperation.

The Liquor Licensing Squad searched a house at Uo Creek near Panatina after receiving reports of people illegally manufacturing Kwaso on Friday afternoon.

When they attended the house, police found a significant amount of equipment and prepared Kwaso. They seized two kwaso stills and five 40 gallon drums and numerous containers including buckets and bottles.

The seizure of the Kwaso and associated equipment has led to the arrest of a national male who was later charged for manufacturing Kwaso.

This is the largest seizure of Kwaso made by the Liquor Licensing Squad since it’s formation in 2003. The previous largest seizure consisted of 400 litres of Kwaso was in November 2005.

Police will continue to investigate the illegal manufacture of Kwaso as part of their strategy to reduce crime associated with alcohol consumption.

Police are appealing to members of the public to assist police by reporting similar illegal activities within their communities. Crimes can be reported to police through the Crimewatch number 999.
