SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, June 21) – The Fiji Police Force's accounts office was today searched by officers from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC).

Acting Police Commissioner Romanu Tikotikoca said he had not been informed prior to the raid and has asked "for simple courtesy" from FICAC.

The search by FICAC follows allegations leveled against certain senior and junior officers in the police force.

Tikotikoca said FICAC chief investigator Nazir Ali had lodged a complaint against certain police officers last December.

He said that police investigators are still waiting for Ali to give his statement to back his allegations.

[PIR editor’s note: According to PIR archives, immediately after the military takeover of December 2006, Commodore Bainimarama sacked several high ranking police officials, including then Police Commissioner Andrew Hughes.]
