CNMI’S FITIAL TAKES TRIP TO CHINA, HONG KONG

SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, June 26) – Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Governor Benigno R. Fitial left for China over the weekend to meet with potential investors, according to Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr.

He said Fitial is expected to be back before the week is over.

Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez is the acting governor.

Reyes said the governor will be traveling to China and Hong Kong, the former British colony that is home to some of the world’s wealthiest Chinese investors.

"I understand that it’s investment-related for the benefit of the CNMI," said Reyes when asked about the nature of Fitial’s trip to China.

But he declined to say who the governor will be meeting. "I don’t have his itinerary," Reyes said.

Fitial traveled several times last year to China to meet with several "potential" investors.
