U.S. WARSHIP TO CELEBRATE JULY 4TH IN TONGA

NUKUALOFA, Tonga (Radio Tonga News, June 28) - A celebration of U.S. Independence next week is bringing to Tonga the destroyer, USS John Paul Jones DDG53.

The warship is sailing back from the Gulf to join the celebration of the commemoration of U.S Independence day on July 4th.

U.S Ambassador, Mr Larry Dinger and other U.S delegates will celebrate U.S Independence Day in the Kingdom.

His Majesty, King George Tupou 5th is expected to be attending as well.

According to Lieutenant commander Solomone Savelio of the Tonga Defense, this is the first time for the U.S delegation to celebrate Independence day in Tonga.

Savelio says the US Peace Corps is currently arranging various programmes for the crew.

Crew of past warships had helped out in the hospital as well as cleaning up the foreshore of Nuku'alofa waterfront.

The USS John Paul Jones will be in the Kingdom from Tuesday next week, July 3rd until Saturday the 7th.

The warship carries 291 crew and 31 officers.
