WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, Sept. 3) – Vanuatu is set to have an indigenous official representing it full-time at the European Union for the first time.

Roy Mickey Joy has been named as Vanuatu’s new ambassador in Brussels and will be officially appointed on Wednesday in Port Vila.

A career public servant, Roy Mickey Joy is the first ni-Vanuatu in a post for which Vanuatu has previously been represented by Fiji.

Under the United Nations criteria, Vanuatu has Least Developed Country status and its government hopes that having a full-time ambassador in Brussels will help it tap into more of the available funds for LDC countries.
