SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, Nov. 4) – Fiji Police have arrested 11 people in connection with the alleged plot to assassinate interim Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and some of his Cabinet Ministers.

Assistant Police Commissioner Crime, Senior Superintendent Nasir Ali confirmed that the 11 are now in custody and being questioned at the Central Police station in Suva.

They are Colonel Metuisela Mua, Naitasiri chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, Former Land Force Commander Colonel Jone Baledrokadroka, SDL national director Peceli Kinivuwai, Ballu Khan, former politician Peceli Rinakama, Siva Waqa, an employee of Ballu Khan, former CRW soldiers Barbadoes Mills, Strategic Air Services Limited chief executive Inia Tueli and another person identified as Seoko.

Millionaire businessman, Ballu Khan and Naitasiri High Chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata were the first to be taken in for questioning by police yesterday.

Khan was allegedly beaten up by soldiers following intelligence reports that he had collaborated with a group of people to assassinate Bainimarama and some top military officers.

More people are expected to be arrested in the next few days

Police Commissioner, Commodore Esala Teleni at a press conference said they have received intelligence regarding a plot by members of the disbanded Counter Revolutionary Warfare (CRW) unit on Bainimarama, certain Cabinet ministers and senior officers in the army.

"Intelligence report has also highlighted that individuals who had plotted this assassinations may have the backing of certain Non-Government Organisation who have financially contributed to the plots."

He also revealed that some neighboring countries may have been involved in this plot by financing the NGO’s cost that have been supporting this group.
