SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, Nov. 13) – The leaders of Guam, Yap, Palau and the Northern Marianas will convene once again on Saipan for the Western Micronesian Chief Executives Summit.

Palau President Tommy Remengesau arrived over the weekend while the other leaders are expected to arrive soon ahead of the Nov. 13-15 summit.

Guam Gov. Felix Camacho has already confirmed his attendance.

Press Secretary Charles Reyes Jr. said the island leaders will again discuss ways they can help each other on regional issues.

At the top of their agenda are the issues of energy, soaring fuel prices and international tourism.

Reyes said there will also be discussions on changing the body’s by-laws so that other jurisdictions in the Pacific region can become members.

He said Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, the current chairman of the group, believes that the more members they have, the more strength they have.

He said the governor wants the membership to be extended to the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati and Nauru.

Saipan hosted the 7th summit last March.
