GERMANY DONATES OIL PRESS, PIG FARM TO TONGA

NUKU΄ALOFA, Tonga (Radio Tonga News, Nov. 14) - The German Ambassador to Tonga, His Excellency Jorge Zimmermann, has today donated about 40,000 Pa’anga [US$19,600] towards two community projects.

Mr. Zimmermann, who is based in Wellington, New Zealand, presented an oil press machinery to the National Youth Congress, worth about NZ$1,900 [US$1,431]. The machine will be used for extracting of oil from coconut and other nuts.

The German ambassador also handed over a Piggery Farm to the community of Te’ekiu.

According to the German Honourary Consul to Tonga, Karl Sanft the Te’ekiu project costs more than 18,000 Pa'anga [US$8,820].

Both projects are funded by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany’s Small Scale Project.

Ambassador Zimmermann arrived in Nuku΄alofa on Monday. He had met with the Prime Minister, Dr. Feleti Sevele, as well as the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, and High Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand.

During his brief visit, the German Ambassador traveled to Neiafu yesterday where he also met the Acting Governor of Vava’u, Honorable Tu’a Taumoepeau-Tupou.

The Ambassador also visits other projects that have indicated interest to apply for funding from the similar program.

He will leave Tonga tomorrow morning.
