SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Nov. 21) - Interim Prime Minister, Commander Voreqe Bainimarama's announcement for the need for a common name for all Fiji citizens has been met with mixed reactions.

The president of the Arya Shabha, Kamlesh Arya said they felt strongly about this and all people born in Fiji should have a common name.

He said people are born and raised in Fiji yet are categorized as third class by being branded Indo-Fijian.

But University of the South Pacific lecturer, Paul Geragthy said the common name would not change who we are.

Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (SDL) party executive, Peceli Kinivuwai said issues such as this could not be dictated by one man but through a referendum, which was the parliamentary procedure.
