KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon, Dec. 24) — A delegation of Palau dignitaries paid a courtesy visit to the Legislative Yuan of the Republic of China (Taiwan) on Dec. 17. Due to flight schedules, the delegation left Palau on Saturday Dec. 15 and returned Dec.19.

Johnson Toribiong, Palau’s Ambassador to Taiwan, headed the Palau delegation, which included Delegate Jonathan "Cio" Isechal, Governor Browny Salvador, and Jackson Henry.

H.E. Jing-Pyng Wang, the current President of the Legislative Yuan of the R.O.C. (Taiwan), invited Ambassador Toribiong to visit the Legislative Yuan. Toribiong extended the invitation to include representatives of both houses of the Palau Legislature, the Palau Governors’ Association, the private business sector, and the media.

During the visit, Wang complimented the delegation for accepting his invitation and for the continued effort that has been put into the fostering of the relationship between Palau and Taiwan. He asked that future effort be maintained.

Delegate Isechal, on behalf of the delegation and the people of Palau, thanked President Wang for the invitation and for the Legislative Yuan’s generous appropriations in support of the development of Palau.

Wang and Toribiong exchanged gifts and blessings on both countries for the holidays as well as the countries’ presidential and legislative elections in 2008. Both countries are set to elect new legislative and presidential leaders in 2008 – Taiwan in January and March and Palau in November.
