FOUR ARRESTED ON SAIPAN FOR DEALING ‘ICE’

SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, Jan. 3) – Four men were arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration for trafficking and possession of a controlled substance — "ice."

Arrested were Vincent David Cabrera Jr., 29; Joseph Matagolai Aldan, also known as Joey, 32; Vicente Q. Falig, 42; and Greg Magofna also known as Goru, 30.

Cabrera was arrested on Dec. 31 at 4:25 p.m. in Koblerville and was brought to Superior Court for a bail hearing yesterday morning before Associate Judge David A. Wiseman.

Wiseman set a cash bail of $100,000 and Cabrera was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.

A preliminary hearing was set for Jan, 10 while the arraignment will be on Jan. 14.

The affidavit submitted to court stated that Cabrera is on probation for federal drug charges.

It added that a buy-walk operation was conducted on Sept. 20, 2007 in the parking lot of Moon Night Club in Chalan Kanoa. The cooperating source managed to buy $200 worth of ice from Cabrera.

Aldan, Falig and Magofna were arrested on Dec. 28 and 29 and were brought to Superior Court for a bail hearing on Monday morning.

Wiseman imposed a cash bail equivalent to 10 percent of $50,000 for each defendant.

The defendants were later remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Their preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 9 and the arraignment will be on Jan. 14.

The affidavit submitted to court stated that law enforcement officers received information that Aldan was engaged in selling crystal methamphetamine, or ice.

The affidavit stated that a buy-bust operation was conducted for Aldan on Aug. 28 and 30, 2007.

The cooperating source managed to purchase $200 of ice from Aldan during the first drug operation at an apartment in Dandan.

In the second buy-bust operation on Aug, 30, the cooperating source managed to buy $100 worth of ice and marijuana from Aldan at a poker establishment in Dandan.

Aldan was arrested on Dec. 28 at 10:30 p.m. at his residence in Koblerville.

On Aug. 23 and 24, a drug buy-walk operations was conducted for Falig.

A cooperating source managed to purchase $200 of ice from Falig at the Lower Base beach area in the first drug transaction and $100 worth of ice in the second.

Falig was arrested on Dec. 29 at 3 p.m.

The affidavit stated that a buy-walk operation was conducted for Magofna on Oct. 30 and on Dec. 1, 2007.

The cooperating source managed to buy $90 worth of ice from Magofna at Candy’s Poker in Tanapag and another $120 worth of ice in the second transaction.
