PALAU VISITOR ARRIVALS UP 7 PERCENT IN 2007

KOROR (Palau Horizon, Jan. 28, 2008) — Tourist arrivals in Palau last year a seven percent increase compared to visitors in 2006..

According to the statistics provided by the Palau Visitor’s Authority (PVA) there were 88,175 arrivals in comparison to the 82,397 visitors.

In Year 2007, there were 29,197 visitors from Japan compared to the 26,892 arrivals in 2006.

The Japanese visitors continued to be the top market for tourists coming to Palau and the Taiwan market in second with 29,005 which posted an increase of almost 2 percent compared to 2006.

The Korean market continued to be in the top three with 14,342 and in a distant top four are arrivals from the United States with 5,957.

In the fifth place are tourists from Guam with 1,848 but statistics showed that compared to the 2006 arrivals, Guam visitors in 2007 registered a drop of nine percent.

In the sixth place is Philippines with 1,719 visitors which is a 20 percent increase compared to 2006.

Tied in 7th place; Micronesia and other areas, 964; 8th, is European countries with 882; 9th is from Australia/New Zealand with 733 and completing the top 10 market is from Germany with 476.

The December 2007 arrivals dipped by 2 percent with only 7,712 arrivals compared to the 7,882 guests in same month of 2006.
