CHINESE INVESTORS EYE RETAIL MALL ON SAIPAN

SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, Feb. 1, 2008) – A groupo of Chinese investors paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Juan B. Tudela recently and expressed interest in doing business on Saipan, according to Tony Benavente, the mayor’s public information officer.

He said the investors want to determine the possibility of opening a jewelry/gem factory and a mall here.

"They’re here on island to help the economy of the CNMI." Tudela said. "And I feel happy and proud that they’re interested."

Benavente said the Chinese investors are considering opening a mall in Garapan.

He said there is still no concrete project proposal yet, but the Chinese businesspeople told the mayor they will be back on island in March to discuss further possible investment opportunities on island.

The investors were led by Lin Jian Ping, CEO of Crystal & Jewelry Association of Guangdong in China.
