FOREIGN ‘ICE’ DEALER ARRESTED ON ROTA Sold the drug to an undercover agent

SAIPAN, CNMI (Mariana Variety, March 12, 2008) - A 44-year-old foreigner was arrested for trafficking and possession of "ice" on Rota.

Sha, Yaoqiang, also known as Kiki, was arrested on Monday at 11:27 p.m. in Songsong, Rota.

The defendant was brought to the Superior Court for a bail hearing before Associate Judge Kenneth Govendo who set a cash bail of US$20,000.

The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing. The preliminary hearing was set for March 17 at 9 a.m. while arraignment was set for March 25.

The affidavit of Detective Francis Manglona submitted to court stated that a controlled buy-walk operation was conducted on March 9 at 9:45 p.m. in Songsong.

According to the affidavit, the cooperating source called the defendant on his cell phone and asked the defendant to purchase US$200 worth of ice. The source and the defendant agreed to meet at the Rota Poker just south of Angel Karaoke.

The defendant and the source went out of the poker establishment through the exit door and it was there where the defendant handed the ice to the source, the affidavit stated. It added that on March 10, another buy-walk operation was conducted and the cooperating source managed to purchase US$100 worth of ice from defendant.

The defendant and the source met between Angel Karaoke and the House of Fabrics building.

The defendant was arrested later by the Department of Public Safety’s Drug Enforcement Task Force.
