Organization to send representatives to Fiji

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, March 30, 2008) – The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) will soon send missions to Fiji to show its commitments to the values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

President of ACP Council of Ministers Ali Farah Assoweh said they are hopeful this will provide ample illustration of sound political governance which is nothing exceptional in ACP countries.

He said the mission will get first-hand view of the implementation of the commitments made by Fiji's interim Government for a return to constitutional law, in the framework of the consultations held in 2007 between the Republic of Fiji and the European Union, under Article 96 of the Cotonou Agreement.

"This clearly shows that the ACP Group is deeply committed to respect for, and the promotion of, the essential elements that underpin the ACP-EU partnership," Assoweh said.
