Thurston Gardens suffered neglect

SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive, April 1, 2008) - Work on Suva’s popular Thurston Gardens will be undertaken by the Suva City Council, it has been confirmed.

Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s office, Parmesh Chand told Fijilive essentially the focus in the initial phase would be to tidy the whole place up.

The footpath will be done up, the public convenience will be opened and the Suva City Council is expected to move its nursery back into Thurston Gardens.

"The Prime Minister in his capacity as Commander of RFMF has agreed that RFMF Engineers Regiment assist with the upgrading works. The earlier proposal for Government to erect a War Memorial in the Gardens has been abandoned," Chand said.

Thurston Gardens was once a popular hangout for families in Suva.
