Order forbad him from traveling

SUVA. Fiji (Fiji Times, April 21, 2008) – Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanu party national director Peceli Kinivuwai was stopped from leaving the country yesterday.

He said a prohibition order barring him from leaving Fiji had been authorised by Police Commissioner Esala Teleni.

Mr Kinivuwai claimed to have seen a letter with Mr Teleni's name on it that ordered him being stopped at Nadi Airport.

But, he said, when he called Mr Teleni for an explanation, he was told Mr Teleni did not know anything about such a letter.

Police public relations officer Ema Mua said the allegation was a move to discredit Mr Teleni.

She said the prohibition order in question was poorly hand-written and unsigned.

"This is definitely an effort to discredit either the Police Commissioner or Mr Kinivuwai," she said.

"I can't say from which circuit this act of sabotage could be coming from but we are taking this seriously, particularly as this is not the first time this has taken place. As far as we know, no such letter originated from the Police Commissioner's office," Ms Mua said.

She said Mr Kinivuwai and Mr Teleni were to talk things over.
