NUKU’ALOFA, Tonga (Tonga Broadcasting Commission, June 2, 2008) – The construction of a new hotel is currently underway in Nuku'alofa, estimated to cost between $4 million and $5 million pa'anga [US$1.9 and US$2.4 million].

This new hotel will be located at the corner next to the old Tungi Arcade and opposite the Nuku'alofa Hotel. The hotel will be 60 meters in length and 30 meters wide and will encompass a double storey building.

Information from the King's Construction Company, who will be carrying out the work, says the hotel will be located in the top part of the building and will consist of 25 rooms and a Shopping Mall with other business offices located in the bottom half.

There will also be a parking area included in the plans and the hope is that the construction will be completed before the event of the coronation. The construction company says they are having a few difficulties with the late arrival of construction materials which are being brought in from China, the United States and New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the construction company is currently completing a restaurant being built in the area where the old John's Place restaurant used to be, and it has been confirmed that this will be completed before the Coronation.

Both the hotel/mall and restaurant are owned by the Nuku'alofa Investment Limited.
